Gordon River Cruises Review

  • Written by Greg Rogers

The cruise on the Gordon River commences at Strahan. This experience is much more than simply entertainment. Guests on the cruise are immersed in the history of one first places settled in Australia.

The boats pass along waters explored by Australia's pioneers and later convicts along with their often unkind guards.

There is so much to see in the harbour at Strahan and its entrance to the ocean before heading upriver. The commentary is one of the best parts of this enjoyable and memorable tour.

If you are in Tasmania make the effort to get to the South West corner and visit Strahan. The climate, the Gordon River, the ancient vegetation, the town's architecture and this cruise, are unique. Find out more

Complete your visit to this unique area of Tasmania with a cruise. Gordon River Cruises gives you the rare opportunity to experience a Tasmanian World Heritage Wilderness Area from the water – it is one of the most fascinating activities you can do when you visit Strahan.

The crew at Gordon River Cruises know the secrets of the majestic river as well as Macquarie Harbour, and they delight in sharing their knowledge of the land, river and local history with you. You will be given an amazing opportunity to explore the wilderness of the West Coast as we cruise through the wilderness and take a walk through the untamed temperate rainforest of this World Heritage Wilderness Area.

Gordon River Cruises have two magnificent vessels that were especially built with the environment and your comfort in mind: the Lady Jane Franklin II and MV Sophia.

The stately Lady Jane Franklin II is 32 metres in length and carries up to 212 passengers – including seats on the Main Deck and impressive Captain’s Premier Upper Deck. She is well equipped to take you gliding across Macquarie Harbour and through Hells Gates into the Southern Ocean.

The MV Sophia takes a more intimate 11 passengers and is perfect for fishing charters and small tours of the area, including the spectacular Bonnet Island Experience. To find out more about our vessels click here
