The Grates at The Rocks Australia Day
- Written by Matt Fraser
Australia’s favourite one-two rock combo, The Grates, will bring their scorching vocals and rabid riffs to The Rocks this Australia Day, Tuesday 26 January, 2016.
With four critically acclaimed records under their belt, including ‘Dream Team’ their most recent release in 2014, The Grates will be joining some of Australia’s finest performers in a superb celebration of Sydney life at The Rocks.
Two main stages: Warrane at First Fleet Park and Tallawoladah at Atherden Street; will be home for the day to a who’s who of eclectic, Australian summer sounds.
Alt-pop legend Katy Steele of Little Birdy fame; the infectious Melbourne Ska Orchestra; and hip-hop sensation Tuka are just some of the incredible artists rocking out with The Grates and spreading the good vibes.
From noon to early evening the precinct will come alive, starting with Jaunt on George Street. The normally bustling street will convert into a cool, relaxed, urban space, complete with a croquet green from Croquet NSW, a caravan playing Triple J’s iconic hottest 100, instant photo booth, and an opportunity to ‘sky gaze’ in comfort.
With arts and crafts markets, food markets, a sun-soaked harbour view, cool tunes and relaxed feel, The Rocks will again be the place to celebrate the very best of summer this Australia Day.
