Campervan Hire VS Motel Rooms

  • Written by News Feature Team

With that wide-open road ceaselessly unfolding ahead of us, the splendid sights unraveling as we drive past, and those occasional hidden gems that reveal themselves if we are lucky enough, we can’t think of a better way to explore beautiful destinations than on a road trip. Hitting the road for our vacation is an easy choice, however. It’s choosing how to do it—by
campervan hire or by car—that might be a harder decision to make.

Traveling by car and staying at motel rooms is a different experience from hitting the road in a campervan hire. Which option is the best? It all depends on your preferences, budget, and adventure level.

Cost

If you’re on the budget, hiring a campervan might be the better choice. Even with the price of gas and fuel usage taken into account, going on a road trip in a campervan hire proves to be more cost-effective.

A car has better mileage, yes. You’ll save a lot of money on gas driving a car versus driving a campervan. However, the cost of accommodations greatly makes up the difference. The average motel room these days will set you back around $80 a night if you’re lucky. A powered campervan site, on the other hand, only set you back around $30-$35 a night. Plus, you can opt to stay at an unpowered site every other night to save even more.

Comfort & Cleanliness

Find yourself a trusted and highly reviewed campervan hire company, and you are assured of a vehicle that is clean, comfortable, and in great condition. And you can even add some finishing touches—your own sheets and favorite pillows, for example—to make it feel like home.

Staying at random motels while on the road, on the other hand, is a tricky business. You never know what kind of room you’ll end up with. Even after doing your research and reading online reviews, you might still end up in an absolute dump. Who wants to stay in crappy, mildew-smelling, disease-infested motel rooms, when you can find yourself a nice campervan as your main base wherever the road takes you.

Home Cooked Meals

We all know how eating out everyday, especially when you’re on vacation, can burn a serious hole in your wallet. Worse is when you’re on the road, you might have to resort to spending your hard-earned money at a lousy restaurant that serves dreadful food because your options are limited.

A good way to save money and also eat well while on the road is to make home cooked meals. While only a handful of motel rooms come with full kitchens, many campervan hires are equipped with fridge with freezer, a gas oven, a microwave, a sink, and dining utensils. If you plan on cooking your own food during your trip, hiring a campervan is your best bet.

Flexibility and Fun Factor

Driving long distances in a cramped car and sleeping in shoddy motel rooms can put a damper on your vacation. Why take the risk? With a campervan hire, you have more control of how clean you want the interior to be.

You also get a whole lot of space, which allows you to move around, stretch your legs, have sit down meals, watch movies comfortably, and even play your favorite board and car games without having to pull over and stop. This is especially helpful when you’re on a longer, more tedious leg of your road trip.

Sleeping Under the Stars

In a motel room, you’ll most likely end up in a tiny, moldy room whose sheets, carpet, and towels are all suspect. And you might just spend a huge chunk of your night just watching a movie on TV.

Not so with a campervan. Part of the beauty and appeal of camping is having the vast wilderness as your backyard and the Milky Way your ceiling. A campervan hire offers all that, but on a slightly less rugged level. There isn’t anything better than sleeping under the night sky bedecked with twinkling stars.
