The Landlord Lament - 6 Things to Avoid When Moving Out
- Written by News Feature Team
Moving can be such a stressful experience.
Time is not always on your side and you think you have so much of it when, in reality, it goes by so quickly you don’t even realise. When you are moving there is so much you need to do and need to take into consideration it can honestly feel like too much sometimes. Thankfully, there are companies who have bond cleaners in Sydney, that can take part of the stress and worry off your shoulders by making sure everything is in perfect order when you leave. However, until that point, most of it is up to you.
If you are moving out and have no idea where to start then here are 6 things that you should avoid when it comes to moving.
Lazy packing
Whilst at the time simply throwing things in a box makes sense time wise, it will not be so great when it comes to unpacking. Get yourself organised and pack boxes accordingly, it may be an awesome time saver at the time but it will be hell when you get into your new place and think all the stress is behind you.
Not cleaning out
A huge mistake to make would be to not go through your belongings and figure out what you need and what you don’t need. Over time a lot of the things we once loved get forgotten about or replaced and when it comes time to moving you don’t want to be moving things you no longer need. Doing a clean out of your closet either before you start packing or whilst your packing can really lighten the load and give you less to do. If you don’t have a family member you can re gift your pre loved goodies too, then hit up your local op shop.
No Plan
Moving can be a bit all over the place at times, and pretty confusing.
One thing you can do to help yourself when the time comes is to set out a plan for packing and taking things, this will help you to stay organised and stay on track so you don’t feel like you’re drowning in your own possessions.
Unfinished Unpacking
Once you get into your new place, chances are you are going to be super tired from the move. Try to avoid getting complacent with unpacking as this will just lead to more stress down the track. Set aside a day or a weekend to properly unpack and set everything up in your new place so you have nothing left sitting in boxes or just thrown anywhere and so the place can start to feel like your home.
Settling
Despite all the stress, moving is very exciting, especially if you are moving out of your family home. One important thing to remember when moving out is to take your time and not settle. If you move somewhere simply because it is there and it is convenient you may end up not liking where you live, which will really affect you in a negative way.
Know your roommates
This one is super important. If you are moving in with housemates, make sure you are 100% certain that you will be able to live with these people. Moving in with your friends can sometimes ruin friendships and make the house a living nightmare if you’re not careful. Living with housemates means that every area of the house that is not someone’s bedroom is a shared space, so compromises will need to be made.
Don’t let all the stress and worries of moving get you down, it will be over before you know it and you will be so thankful for it once you are all settled. Take all the good and bad experiences and learn from them so you can use them in the future.
