Ways to Get high grades through Class Discussion Participations for University Students

  • Written by News Company

Classroom method of teaching and studying is the biggest and the oldest method of spreading and gaining knowledge. Teachers have been conducting classes this way since ages, even in the times of kings and rishis. Even in the ancient times of the Ramayana and Mahabharat, there are instances of students going to a learned rishi’s ashram, who would be there teachers for a couple years, to gain wisdom. Hence, we can clearly say it is one of the best ways any school or college can adopt.

However, there are certain perks or I should say aspects which make classroom studying boring for the students. Many a times, students feel that they don’t get personal attention of the teacher or the teacher may feel that he is not able to explain in a way so as to help all the students understand necessary concepts. Students may also feel that they are not able to learn things efficiently in the presence of other students who have a better speed of grasping concepts. This is why students end up keeping their doubts to themselves.

But here I bring to you 5 ways to get high grades in your class through class discussion participation for all university students. You obviously have the option of going for separate tution classes or hiring a private tutor as most people do but then, you will not be able to take out time for your extra creative activities and hobbies such as painting, music, art, reading, dancing or sports. So using the techniques of class participation I am going to discuss here, you will be able to grasp the major concepts in your classroom itself when your teacher is explaining them. I suggest you share this article with your teacher also so that he or she can learn the techniques I am recommending for achieving high grades.

1 – Ask your doubts.

I know that a lot students, in fact majority of them, have an issue with this one but it also happens to be the most important one. That is why I am mentioning this first and will be discussing in detail about how you can achieve it successfully. I understand that asking a doubt can be a frightening suggestion or even just the thought of it can make you feel like puking. And first of all, I want you to realize that it is normal. You may look at other students confidently raising their hands, standing up and asking a question to your teacher while you sit there with sweaty palms under the desk which can work to get the best assignment help services. Worry not because I am here to help. First, try figuring out why you feel that way. Is it because you are afraid of your teacher? Or is it because you are afraid that other students will judge you because of your doubt and laugh at you? Or is it because you are worried your teacher will judge you and look down upon your question as silly?

I can give you answer to each one of those feelings. If you are afraid of your teacher, the solution is simple. Just do not be. I know it sounds too simple to be true but think about it. Your teacher is there to help you. Teaching you and answering all your questions is their damn job. Why should you be afraid of them unless they are some big monster with huge fangs? So, by asking a question you are only asking from the teacher for what you paid them for. Do not be hesitant to take a service you actually paid for. Next, if you feel the students will judge you, then let them judge. It is said that a person who asks a doubt is a fool just that once but the one who never asks, remains a fool forever. If you think the students will laugh at you, let them. You ask your doubt and let them go to hell.

No doubt is ever silly, even if you will look for perdisco assignment help from accounting experts. Now this one is for teachers. Once in my mathematics class in the university, a girl stood up and asked an exceptionally basic doubt (something which all 5th graders know) and all students burst out laughing at her. But I looked at the teacher who was staring at this girl intently. He did not have a judgmental look on his face, neither was he smirking. He took a deep breath and patiently explained the answer to the girl whose cheeks were completely flushed by then. After explaining, he thanked her for having the courage to ask the question and said that he felt glad that she had trusted him. The entire class went silent. I hope all teachers could learn from this teacher that their job is to explain and clarify, however ‘silly’ they consider the doubt to be.

2 – Group discussions

After all that uncomfortable talk about doubts, let us move on to something fun. Group discussion are one of the best methods any teacher can use to communicate with the class and help them understand the concepts. This method is best used in subjects like economics and social science. The teacher is supposed to divide the class in two or more huge groups and give them a class topic to discuss on.

The groups can take some time and come up with certain points they want to raise in the panel and also some questions which they would want to throw at the other teams. Once the discussion starts, the teacher has to maintain a score of every team with the number of right points and the number of questions correctly answered. Another thing which the teacher should ensure is that every student in each group should get an opportunity to talk since many a times, few students tend to overshadow the others.

3 – Team quizzes

As in the group discussion, here also groups are to be made. I suggest more number of groups for this one. The teacher should then be the host who should ask questions or problems related to the subject and each group should get a chance to answer. There should a set number of questions which the teacher should have already prepared. Once all the questions are over, the teacher can calculate the score.

To make this game more fun, teachers can put up rewards, such as extra marks for the student who wins in the internal exams or something similar. This method is best used for subjects like mathematics and science.

4 – Skits, dramas, and plays.

This method is best used for subjects like English, literature, history, political science, accounting assignment help etc. Students can form groups and each group can pick up a chapter from the literature book (or whichever subject they are targeting). Then the aim is to take a set number of days to formulate a script, arrange character costumes and practice the stage play. Then on a fixed date agreed upon by the teacher, each group should perform their drama one by one.

To make the process more interesting, the teacher can call students from other classes, other teachers and principal to be the audience. Another thing which can be added is to turn this into a mini competition by keeping a voting bonus. Each member of the audience can vote for a group and whichever group gets the highest votes, their teacher can give them additional marks in the internal exams.

This method is not only the most fun method, but it also gives the students an exposure of a totally different kind. They learn teamwork, analyze creative aspects of a study material and understand the primary concept in an efficient way.

5 – The random box method

Now for all those of you who have are overly shy, sensitive and all my previous ideas feel frightening, here is a little treat for you. In the random box method, your teacher is supposed to keep a box on the desk and invite all students to add in their suggestions, doubts and questions. However, it is very important for this to be kept anonymous because only then does it serve the primary purpose.

Each week or once in two weeks, on a set date, the teacher should open the box and read out the questions and clear the doubts written in those. This way no student feels embarrassed or frightened while asking a doubt. Also, the teacher will also come to know about the kind of doubts students have and it will help him or her to take the class at an according pace.

However, this is a method a lot of teachers do not agree to because it takes up a lot of time. And also, sadly, it shows the teacher how many doubts a student has in their class and so, they feel disappointed in themselves. So, even if your teacher does not agree to this, worry not because you have the other four methods which will help you.

If you are a student reading this, I highly recommend that you share this article with your teacher related to all subjects like economics assignment help and ask them if there is any method they are willing to use in class. Alternatively, you can share it with your classmates and all of you can collectively talk to your teacher about whichever method you want to use. That way you teacher will be more likely to consider it.

I hope this article will help you be more active in class participation and will also help you achieve high grades in your university. I wish you all the best and keep coming back for more.
