The results of 'TripBarometer', TripAdvisor's annual global trends study, indicate that the Melbourne hotel industry is set for a busy 2016, with the iconic Hotel Windsor expecting a record-breaking year for occupancy.

'TripBarometer' is an annual study conducted for TripAdvisor by independent research firm Ipsoos, which surveys more than 44,000 travelers and hoteliers around the globe to identify international travel trends.

One of the key trends identified in the report is travellers indicating they will be choosing desitnations based on culture. In Victoria, this has been a key pillar of investment with successive governments committing to special events, continuing to draw local and international tourists to the state. An indicator of this is the year-on-year increase in international visitors flying in to Melbourne Airport, which reported it experienced a massive 10 per cent increase in international arrivals from the previous year in November 2015 .

The Hotel Windsor CEO, David Perry, anticipates record-breaking occupancy rates in 2016.

“We've experienced exceptionally high occupancy rates of more than 88 per cent in Melbourne over the last three years, which is incredibly high however not unusual in Melbourne making it one of the busiest cities in the world.

“With high occupancy in the five-star hotel market it shows that even with Airbnb active, the market has not slowed down for an instant and demand for quality tourism experiences in this great state has continued to thrive,” says Perry.

Director of The Hotel Windsor, Adi Halim, believes that the exceptional calendar of events in 2016 will continue to put Melbourne on the map for tourists.

“The City of Melbourne's commitment to present the city to the world as one of the most exciting to visit on the planet is definitely reaping positive results,” says Halim.

To secure the best hotel rates in 2016 the advice from The Hotel Windsor is to book early, with high levels of occupancy expected year-round due the the extensive calendar of events and increased vistiation from international tourists.

This year Melbourne will host an exceptional calendar of events including the Australia Open (January), Edinbrough Military Tattoo (February), The Grand Prix (March), Matilda the musical (March), European Champions Soccor (July), the Andy Warhol and Ai Weiwei exibition, and many more.
