- Written by News Feature Team
There is nothing quite as American as a truly good road trip. While the idea of a coast to coast road trip or one up and down the West Coast often get the most attention the East Coast offers plenty of opportunity for some truly incredible road trip experiences. Whether you want to see new and completely unique ecosystems, some of the best beaches in the United States, or stunning Appalachian scenery, nothing makes your RV rental more exciting than having an incredible East Coast road trip planned out, and these following five are bucket list worthy vacations for sure!
#1: North Carolina's "Hidden Gem" Coast
The Outer Banks are easy to forget about if you don't live in or near North Carolina, however this is a gem of a road trip. A long coastal peninsula featuring incredible beaches, thriving coastal towns, and barrier islands is over 200 miles long on North Carolina's east coast. Considered one of the true hidden gems, some of these beaches are as nice as any that can be found in the United States.
With 200 miles of roadway, you have plenty of RV campsites to choose from, plenty of inexpensive but nice on the beach hotels and motels, and plenty to see and do along the way. This is a great road trip you won't want to miss!
#2: Skyline Shenandoah National Park in Virginia
The Skyline Drive in Virginia refers to 105 miles along the Blue Ridge Mountains and Shenandoah National Park. The beautiful scenic views are so common that there are over 75 marked along the route, allowing you to enjoy some of the best and most beautiful natural scenes that the Appalachian Mountains had to offer.
#3: New Hampshire/Vermont Fall Foliage Road Trips
New England is famous for the beauty of their autumns as explosions of yellow, orange, red, and every mixed shade in between make the trees a living canvas of natural beauty. Attracting tourists not only regionally but from around the world, there are no two states who exemplify this seasonal beauty like Vermont and New Hampshire.
If you're looking for an incredible road trip in the fall, you will be hard pressed to find a more beautiful options than foliage based sight-seeing tours of these two states.
#4: Cape Cod Route 6 (Massachusetts)
Highway 6 has many amazing scenic areas on the East Coast, as this route through northern Pennsylvania (marked as the Grand Army of the Republic Highway) is an absolutely stunning road through the Appalachian Mountains, Amish Country, and many outstanding small towns. However, the Cape Cod section of Route 6 in its final (or first, depending where you start from) 100+ miles is incredibly scenic. Forests, tidal pools, beautiful coastal harbor, and colonial style villages are just a sample of what you can see here. An incredible road trip option right on the East Coast.
#5: Florida Keys Road Trip
Amazing how everyone seems to forget about the Florida Keys, but these islands are connected by long bridges heading out into the Gulf of Mexico and each individual island is incredibly unique and has its own personality and ecosystem compared to all the others. Whether you want to explore the natural setting of Big Pine Key, enjoy a quiet tropical day on Islamorada, or pay homage to famed American writer Ernest Hemingway at Key West, there are incredibly beautiful things to see, places to stay, and adventures to be had each step of the way.
This is an incredible road trip that should definitely make your bucket list.
