Disinfectants Flooding the Australian Market But Most Not Proven to Kill Covid

Cheap foreign made cleaning products are flooding the Australian market to combat COVID-19 but most won’t be effective in killing the virus that can last up to 28 days on some household surfaces.

Mum of four Sophie Westlake, who has a background in science, has created Virosol disinfectant that has been tested and proven to kill COVID-19, but is concerned people are opting for cheap imports not proven to kill the virus.

“There is a movement towards buying Australian made but when it comes to cleaning products people are unknowingly misguided in what is locally made and proven to kill the virus.”

Virosol was listed on the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG) in August 2020 after completing a vigorous approval process by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA).

“It was the second household and workplace cleaning product listed on the ARTG. Products listed on this Government Registry are considered the Gold Standard. You cannot claim that your product kills COVID unless you are listed on the Register, it's that simple”.

“Disinfecting your house from COVID and even your phone is so important because the latest CSIRO research suggests it can live on some surfaces for up to a month.”

Ms Westlake said the worst problem areas in the home and workplace where COVID could thrive are -

Doorknobs
Light switches
Remote controls
Keys
Mobile phones
Faucets and taps
Toilets
Communal surfaces like tables and benchtops
