2022 Home Design Trends That Are Uniquely Australian

It hasn't taken long for new Australian home design trends to take form in 2022. They are already apparent in many homes, and there are pictures and videos of these designs going viral online.

When you learn about the different Australian design trends, you will notice they are not as lavish and colourful as the home designs in European countries. Australian home designs tend to be more neutral as opposed to intense or overblown. Instead, they create a more open and relaxed atmosphere.

Below are the top four home design trends which reflect the unique Australian culture, ecology and geography of the huge island nation.

Handcrafted Interiors

The Australian culture is certainly known for being a tribal country, thanks to its aboriginal history. People are fascinated with this history, and they are starting to design the interiors of their homes with lots of handcrafted accessories and fixtures.

For example, not only will the doors of a home be handcrafted from wood native to Australia, but the handles and doorknobs will be handcrafted from the same material. Walls and window treatments can be handcrafted from wood, as well.

As an Australian home designer, your really can go all out by creating your own native tribal carvings on walls and doors. Just think wooden everything and then get creative with it!

Brohemian

The brohemian home design trend is a combination of the traditional boho-coastal look and the tribal look. Do not confuse Brohemian with the word bohemian because they have different meanings.

The main palette of the brohemian design will be white with added tones of petrol blue, black and dark brown. Make your interior look more industrial by filling it with metal and wood furniture.

The idea behind bohemian is adding a tribal essence to the basic white boho style. This goal is accomplished with lots of geometric style patterns on your bedsheets, seat cushions and rugs.

If you're keen to go all out with the tribal appearance, place a few African sculptures and other native art pieces around the home interior and talk to  Royal Flush SA - Leading Contractor about what plumbing would be needed to add a few water features in keeping with this trending home innovation.

Australiana

Celebrate the Australian outback in your home by taking a colourful and modernised approach. Australiana’s earth-toned palette features all the colours that represent the outback.

However, the design itself will appear much more organised and cleaner than the traditional outback. You can expect to use colours like rusty terracotta red, olive green, muddy brown and burnt red.

But if you feel like these colours look too intense on your interior walls, you can start with a base tone of moody grey.

The Australiana look isn’t industrial like the Brohemian design. Choose wood furniture with clean straight lines and just a little bit of graininess to it.

Your rugs should be woven, and your linen should be organic. All your tablecloths need to be handprinted. Soft textures are the key here. Then, to top off everything, use lots of table flowers throughout the home.

Earthen Chique

Earthen chique features a handcrafted interior home design with extra emphasis on being earthly. In other words, not only will you be adding handcrafted doors, furniture and fixtures to your home, but you also will be choosing primarily organic materials.

An earthen chique design includes a combination of natural woods, bricks and stones. Use natural wood for your walls, ceilings, flooring and furniture. Use natural stones for countertops in your kitchen and bathroom.

Brick will do wonders for modernising a few rooms in your home. A living room featuring large picture windows invites plenty of natural sunlight to shine through. Some people even put solar tubes in the ceilings of their bathroom to get sunlight in every room.
