Ensuring The Iconic Falls Festival Show Can Go On

  • Written by Victorian Government

The Andrews Labor Government will contribute financial support to the tune of $200,000 including a contribution of up to $50,000 from the Commonwealth Government so that the Falls Festival can take place this New Year's Eve at Mount Duneed, north of Torquay.

The 2015 Festival was put at risk due to fires which have impacted Wye River and Separation Creek and expected warm temperatures to impact Victoria on New Year's Eve.

The Falls Festival has been an iconic event since 1993 making a significant contribution to the region’s economy.

The financial support will help cover the costs of relocating the festival and the Government is currently working with the Surf Coast Council and the City of Greater Geelong to work through local planning and logistics.

Minister for Tourism and Major Events John Eren

"This is a vital and historic event for this region and it was important to see the show go on for the local economy and those attending."

Member for Bellarine Lisa Neville

"I want to thank the Falls Festival organisers for having the safety of the community front of mind and for working hard with our agencies to achieve this outcome."

Member for Geelong Christine Couzens

"Mount Duneed just hosted a packed our Day on the Green with Elton John so I am pleased we have a great location for party goers on New Year's Eve."
