Adelaide's Raising The Bar

  • Written by Belinda Lindh

South Australia is widely recognised for its world class food and wine, but it's the new laneway bars and hip restaurants, along with the vibrancy in Adelaide's streets that has people talking, and spending longer in this welcoming capital city.

It seems a new cafe or bar is opening every week at the moment, creating a paradise for punters wanting to try something new and unique for a lunchtime treat or their Friday afternoon knock-off.

Here's a list of a few of the newest places to open their doors in Adelaide:

Pink Moon Saloon - Crammed in between two buildings in the ever growing Leigh Street, and previously a rubbish bin alley, the owners of one of Adelaide's most anticipated bars certainly had vision when creating the Pink Moon Saloon. At only 3.77 metres wide, this irresistible bar really packs a punch with an ever changing drinks list and cocktail menu, and a stand out food menu featuring a selection of meats smoked and slow cooked in-house.

Located at 21 Leigh Street, Adelaide. Check out their Facebook page.

Nola – Head to the East End of town and step into Nola to quench your thirst with a craft beer. Located in the old east end stables on Vardon Ave (just off Rundle Street), this bar not only specialises in local beers, but also small batch whiskeys and has a New Orleans inspired menu to get the taste buds salivating.

Located at 293-295 Rundle Street, Adelaide. Check out their Facebook page.

Mississippi Moon – Another new bar channelling America's Deep South, Mississippi Moon brings a touch of the Bayou to the west side of Rundle Mall. Situated just off Hindley Street, and surrounded by a few other smaller bars, including Bibliotecha Bar and La Buvette Drinkery, Mississippi Moon promises its patrons moonshine, bourbon and sin. With the sounds of smooth jazz and soulful blues caressing your ears, and a Huckleberry Gin cocktail in your hand, Mississippi Moon will surely take you to a world of your own.

Located at 25 Gresham Street, Adelaide. Check out their Facebook page.

Jamface Café – the Adelaide Central Market is always a must-do when visiting Adelaide, and now there's another reason to visit, Jamface Café, plonked right in the heart of the market. Opened and operated by former Masterchef star, Poh Ling Yeow, and her hubby Jono, Jamface offers delicious, fresh lunch options made from scratch. The sweets are to die for too, so make sure you save some room. This quirky little establishment will be open for breakfast and lunch on the days the market is open (Tue, Thurs, Fri & Sat) and Friday for dinner as well.

Located at Stall 28/29 Adelaide Central Markets. Check out their Facebook page.

WATCH THIS SPACE: Level One restaurant at Electra House in the CBD is being launched on 11 February and BRKLYN in the East End is another one to keep an eye out for.
