Most annoying plumbing problems and their solutions

A home can bring us both joys and dislikes, since breakdowns can arise at any time. Among all the problems, plumbing are usually the most common. We must know how to deal with these faults, since they can arise at any time. We tell you about common household plumbing problems and how to solve them.

Learning to prevent problems such as leaks, broken pipes and clogged drains is not difficult. Both older and newer buildings should be monitored throughout the year to detect possible problems. Older houses are probably more prone to serious emergencies. You might need an emergency plumber in North Shore as well.

However, new houses may also have their share of problems. Whatever the age of your home, it is an investment worth educating yourself on how to deal with the common situations that homeowners face.

A leaking toilet is a common occurrence. The parts inside the toilet wear out and cause leaks. A leaking toilet can waste a large amount of water, enough to fill a pool if it is not repaired quickly. Usually, you just have to replace the discharge valve. This is a simple job that most people can do themselves. A new discharge valve only costs a few dollars.

Here are a few common problems:

 Jams in the pipes

One of the common problems of home plumbing is pipe jams. The daily use of sinks, sinks and showers and the accumulation of waste make the pipes swallow less and less water, causing these jams. To solve it you have to use unblocking products or opt for homemade solutions.

SOLUTION

The most effective home remedy is to heat bleach and before it boils pour it into the pipes. Leave it on for 15 minutes and you will see how the jam disappears.

2. Damaged tank

This is also a very normal problem in homes, which can also cause us to waste a lot of water. The most common cause is that an element inside the tank has been disengaged, released or hooked with another. Sometimes we can solve it by taking a look and fixing what we see wrong with the naked eye. In any case, in most cases it is better to leave it in the hands of a professional, as it will fix it instantly and cost less than long-term water loss.

SOLUTION

You just have to explain your problem and ask for a free quote. From this moment you can contact the best plumbers in your neighborhood and read the opinions of other users.

3. Faulty Radiators

In this cold season it is normal to restart the radiators after a year of inactivity. Many times, when you turn them on, you will hear strange noises inside them, like a constant bubbling. In many cases this means that the radiators have too much air and need to be purged.

SOLUTION

To do this you must open the radiator valve with a four-sided tap, and put a container under it to collect the water that begins to fall. The water should come out dirty, and when it starts to be clean it will mean that the radiator is purged. Then you just have to close the valve again.

4. Dripping faucets

Together with a damaged tank, this fault is one of the most unnecessary losses of water. It is very common that old faucets begin to drip despite being closed to the maximum. This problem does not usually have a simple or clear solution, so the most effective thing is to replace the tap. You can buy one at any DIY and furniture store.

SOLUTION

Remember that if you are not sure how to make the new installation you must have a professional who avoids unforeseen events.

5. Air in the pipes

Like radiators, pipes can make annoying noises from excess air inside. This happens in houses that have been closed for a long time and with the water cut. The reason is that, since no water passes through the pipes for a long period, they have been filled with air.

SOLUTION

The solution is very simple. Open all the taps in the house for one or two minutes, letting the water run through the pipes again. This will eliminate excess air in the ducts, which will stop making that annoying noise.

8. Rusty faucets

Most modern faucets are made of stainless steel, but those that are not made of this material can suffer the effects of rust over time. This problem is increased in homes closer to the coast, due to excess humidity.

SOLUTION

If you have a home or second residence that you don't go to much and you don't want rust to spoil the taps, the solution is to smear them with petroleum jelly. Remember to clean it completely when you want to use them again.

7. Taps with lime

Another agent that can affect your faucets is lime, especially the shower. If the head is filled with lime it will prevent water from flowing completely.

SOLUTION

Remember to clean it frequently to prevent the lime from accumulating. Pay special attention to this problem if you live in areas of water with lots of lime, such as coastal towns.

8. Bad odors in pipes

If you throw a lot of waste through the drains, they accumulate in the pipes and when they break down they cause bad odors. One of the main protagonists of this problem is the siphon. This is in charge of avoiding bad odors, but if the waste accumulates it will block it and it will not be able to fulfill its function.

SOLUTION

The solution is as simple as removing the siphon cap to remove standing water and clean inside. This should be done with some frequency, at least once a month. If the problem of bad smells comes from the toilet we just have to pull the chain and let the water flow.

CONCLUSION

The sooner you address a problem, the better. If you wait too long, something that could be minor could turn into a great catastrophe that could cost a lot of money. So, the first thing to do is learn to recognize the symptoms and correct them immediately.

Bath drains are often clogged with hair and soap foam. You can use an ordinary plunger to unclog the drain, but the drain will probably clog again very quickly. There are commercial products that will unclog the drains. If you have a severe clogged drain, heavy products will work better but are more expensive. The old trick of a plumber is to use a dust and water vacuum to simply vacuum the drain from the drain.
